USA 2007

In 2004 I was appointed Darwin Officer at Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Council with a brief to prepare for the impending dual celebrations in 2009 of Darwin’s bicentennary and the 150th anniversary of the publication of The Origin of Species. In 2006 I received an invitation from Professor Bob Stephens, founder of the internationally recognised Darwin Day to undertake a short speaking tour of the Bay Area of San Francisco the following year. In February of 2007, I spoke at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Annual Convention at the Hilton, San Francisco and at Stanford University’s Darwin Day. It was a remarkable experience, Bob and his wife Lola were generous hosts and I will always be grateful for the opportunity and to everyone who provided such a warm welcome.
